Radiochemistry and Radiation Chemistry Lab

About

The Laboratory of Radiochemistry and Radiation Chemistry

The Laboratory of Radiochemistry and Radiation Chemistry is part of the Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Milano, within the Nuclear Section. Our mission is to promote excellence in both research and teaching in the field of radiochemistry and radiation chemistry and their applications.

The laboratory has a long tradition, having been established as part of CeSNEF (Centro Studi Nucleari Enrico Fermi), originally located on the Leonardo campus of Politecnico di Milano, near the “L-54 Enrico Fermi” nuclear research reactor. In 2014, it was relocated to Building B18 at the Bovisa campus, where it continues its research and teaching activities as part of the Department of Energy.

Our research activities include studies on processes, treatments and radioanalytical procedures for the management and valorization of the spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste, as well as the study of long-term stability of different matrices towards radiations, at the service of nuclear and non-nuclear industry. In parallel, the laboratory is committed to education, offering both theoretical and practical courses for university students, including “Applied Radiochemistry” and “Analytical Methods and Processes for Waste Characterization and Valorization“.
